This time we received only 32 solutions to our puzzle with 194 downloads of the puzzle file. Was it too difficult to find a decent solution?
To get a very high score you had to reach two goals:
First, one had to collect as many different nobles as possible and secondly, you must invest remaining rubels as effectively as possible in victory points. The first goal was achieved by a controlled purchase of cards in order to display the right amount of noble cards in their phase and in addition to buy noble upgraders using the Observatory (sometimes letting the AI use the Observatory first).
To reach the second goal one had to buy the Carpenter to profit from the increasing rebates when buying Markets and Toll Houses.
Remains to say that by buying those cards preferred by the AI exploits its inflexibility to adapt tactics.
You can explore the full solution by downloading the result file of the winner; you can use the UNDO/REDO buttons to scroll backward/forward to exactly examine each move played!
The second winner was drawn from a hat on August 1st, 2005!
The winners of the 6th WPG Sankt Petersburg Puzzle are:
Astrid Bönning from Germany (best result) and Jan Neustadt from Czech Rebublic (lucky draw) |
Congratulations to both of you from all the Westpark Gamers and the crew from Hans im Glück!
